This year's Bash promises to be even more fun than our past events! The festival's keynote speaker and world-renowned ornithologist, artist and long-time IBBLA member Peter Harrison - plus polar explorer, long-time IBBLA member and Peter's wife, Shirley Metz - will be joining Carmen and Conrad as hosts at this year's 5th bi-annual Bird Beer Bash. There will be new Bird Quiz questions, fantastic prizes, and more.

The 4th Kachemak Bay Shorebird Festival Bird Beer Bash happened at Alice's Champagne Palace on Saturday, May 10, 2008. After a brief introduction to the world of IBBLA, Conrad shared recently submitted bird beer species in a colorful slide show. Over 100 bird beer enthusiasts and 11 teams joined Carmen and Conrad for the exciting bird trivia competition. Tough Puffins took the top prize (Red Knot Ale provided by the Homer Brewing Company). The Double-breasted Matress Thrashers placed 2nd and the Parasitic Jaegers and Tufted Ducks tied for 3rd. This year the Fields offered a rare opportunity to become an IBBLA Contributing Member by bidding on a previously unreported bird beer label. Two new bird beer species were auctioned off, and Alaskans Bob Malloy and Dave Harnum joined the ranks of Contributing Members. A big thanks goes to Bob and Dave for their contribution to the Kachemak Bay Shorebird Festival Conservation Fund!

We also would like to thank Steve McCasland at Homer Brewing Company for providing 1st and 2nd place prizes of ale and Alice's Champagne Palace and Rita Turner for providing a fantastic venue for this event.
